The Last Red Paper Bird
Xiao Yu will go to the mountain country to live with her grandmother. The class makes a promise that is simple enough to keep.
最后一只红纸鸟
今年，小雨要去山那边。
今年，小雨要去山那邊。
Jīnnián, Xiǎo Yǔ yào qù shān nàbiān.
This year, Xiao Yu is going to the other side of the mountain.
她说：“我要和奶奶住。”
她說：「我要和奶奶住。」
Tā shuō: “Wǒ yào hé nǎinai zhù.”
She says: “I am going to live with Grandma.”
小明没有说话。
小明沒有說話。
Xiǎo Míng méiyǒu shuōhuà.
Xiao Ming says nothing.
窗边有一只红纸鸟。
窗邊有一隻紅紙鳥。
Chuāngbiān yǒu yì zhī hóng zhǐ niǎo.
There is a red paper bird by the window.
小雨说：“请看这里。”
小雨說：「請看這裡。」
Xiǎo Yǔ shuō: “Qǐng kàn zhèlǐ.”
Xiao Yu says: “Please look here.”
小明问：“你还会回来吗？”
小明問：「你還會回來嗎？」
Xiǎo Míng wèn: “Nǐ hái huì huílái ma?”
Xiao Ming asks: “Will you come back?”
小雨说：“会。夏天，我会回来。”
小雨說：「會。夏天，我會回來。」
Xiǎo Yǔ shuō: “Huì. Xiàtiān, wǒ huì huílái.”
Xiao Yu says: “I will. I will come back in summer.”
梅老师给他们纸。
梅老師給他們紙。
Méi lǎoshī gěi tāmen zhǐ.
Teacher Mei gives them paper.
他们写：“这里有你。”
他們寫：「這裡有你。」
Tāmen xiě: “Zhèlǐ yǒu nǐ.”
They write: “You have a place here.”
